30 Days of Reading Fun for Beginning Readers

Bring together the states for 30 Days of Reading Fun for Start Readers! This series is perfect for children who are ready to begin learning to read!

I of my very favorite things in the world is teaching children to read! Every bit far as my own children are concerned, all of them accept learned to read (or are currently learning) at dissimilar ages and stages of their evolution. I never want learning to read to go a chore or something they dread. Rather, I want information technology to be fun and meaningful! That'south why I decided to do this 30 Days of Reading Fun for Beginning Readers series. I want to show parents (and teachers) that learning to read can be fun and interactive while simultaneously embodying multiple modalities!

(And yes…I have made a habit out of month-long series here on the weblog. I love the challenge of doing an activity every twenty-four hours for a consecutive month. I have done 31 Days of Indoor Activities for Toddlers, 31 Days of Outdoor Activities for Toddlers, and 31 Days of Pumpkin Activities. Unfortunately September only has 30 days, and so we are making due with a 30-day series.)

My v-year erstwhile girl recently started kindergarten. She is currently going one-half-solar day so I have most of the afternoon to spend with her playing, eating lunch together, and practicing reading and math skills. My daughter is merely beginning to learn to read. Although she has mastered all the letter names and sounds, nosotros are at present working on putting those sounds together! Because I am tailoring these activities to her current abilities, most of the activities below will already requiresomenoesis of letters and sounds.

The National Reading Panel (2000) has identified five principal components of a counterbalanced approach to educational activity reading: comprehension, vocabulary, phonemic awareness, phonics educational activity, and fluency. Tuesdays: Phonemic Awareness Activities

"Phonemes" are the smallest units of sound in the English language. "Phonemic Sensation" consists of hearing the private sounds, recognizing them, and learning how to dispense the sounds within a word. Phonemic awareness does not include any written symbols (i.east. letters)…it is solely almost the sounds. Our Tuesdays will mainly include simple games or activities to do while driving in the car or waiting at a doctor's function.

Wednesdays: Vocabulary and Sight Words

Your child's vocabulary will be expanded exponentially as y'all read together. The more books y'all read to him/her, the more language and vocabulary he/she is exposed to. Because of this, most of our "vocabulary" pedagogy will come up in the form of sight words for starting time readers. Sight words, too known as loftier-frequency words, are the most common words in our written linguistic communication and are often difficult to decode phonetically because they do non follow the words of phonics. Students must memorize these specific words to better their reading fluency.

Thursdays: Phonics Fun

Phonemic sensation and phonics go mitt in hand. Where phonemic awareness focuses on the sounds only, phonics includes on associating sounds with their written symbols (letters).

Fluency Fridays

Fluency is but a fancy word for the speed, accuracy, ease, and inflection with which one reads. Some activities will include capital and lowercase letter of the alphabet matching and others will involve writing (as reading and writing become hand-in-manus). With three children all involved in soccer this fall and Sunday filled with church building activities, our weekend activities volition be short and sweet!
